Our Replica Project

When the Titanic Deck Chair Company of Nantucket was founded in 1998 by friends Ian McCarthy and Ralph Cook, Jr., part of the dream was to recreate the elegance and craftsmanship of the original deck chair recovered in 1912 by Captain LeMarteleur aboard the Mackay-Bennett.

Inspired by that singular artifact, we explored producing faithful replicas—built from solid mahogany, detailed with custom brass hardware, and finished with the hand-carved star on the headrest that made the original chair so distinctive. Our goal was to capture the grace of First Class life aboard Titanic and make it possible for collectors, enthusiasts, and museums to experience a piece of that legacy.

For a time, we developed prototypes and discussed a limited run of chairs, complete with certification marks, historical booklets, and design details true to the 1912 original. But today, no replicas are available for purchase. This remains a project close to our hearts, and one we hope to revisit in the future.

Until then, we invite you to follow along with the continuing story of the original deck chairs themselves—rare survivors of the Titanic disaster whose histories continue to unfold in remarkable ways.
